Everyone that knows me is aware that I have a real love for QR Codes and I think the potential for these little squares are almost endless. The potential will grow according to how well they are used, the willingness of the public to scan them and the overall success of the QR Code campaign.
As a lover of QR Codes and my ability to see them used for so many applications beyond marketing. QR Codes can be used in education, the pharmaceutical industry, resumes, real estate and more. So to think of them as stupid, is really not in my thought process since they have so much potential for some many industries.
I hear “QR codes are Stupid” quite a bit. I think, how can something with so much potential be stupid? Well I’ve decided that it’s not the QR Code that is stupid, but maybe the person that create the campaign was “a bit challenged” in the areas of QR Code marketing campaigns. That’s totally understandable especially since using QR codes in marketing campaigns are a relatively new thing.
A few very simple things to remember when creating a QR Code Campaign:
- Give people a reason to scan
- QR codes should scan to mobile websites
- Don’t assume that people have QR code scanners on their phone.
- Check your QR code with different mobile devices & an online decoder before your release the campaign.
Maybe once we all follow a few basic steps in creating a QR codes campaigns there will be a lot more successful campaigns and people will see the potential beyond the stupid failed QR Code campaign.
